HOUSTON (Aug. 7, 2017) – The newly opened United Way THRIVE Center at Waller will provide area residents with free, comprehensive financial and employment assistance services at one convenient location. The center is a component of United Way THRIVE, a collaborative approach to financial stability that helps families and individuals build stronger financial futures by acquiring skills and education, obtaining better jobs and developing good financial habits. Three THRIVE coaches will be onsite at the Center in Waller County to provide financial and employment coaching, education and vocational training opportunities and screening for public benefits. Free financial and job readiness workshops will take place on the second Thursday of each month covering topics such as defining career goals, understanding credit and gaining control of your money. “For many people, starting on the path to financial stability can often seem daunting and unattainable,” said Melinda Garcia, senior manager of community impact for United Way of Greater Houston. “Through the United Way THRIVE Center at Waller, all you need to do is show up. From there, our trained THRIVE coaches will give you the tools to plan your financial future.” United Way THRIVE’s collaborative approach leverages more than 20 nonprofit partners and partnerships with employers, community colleges and financial institutions to provide families with the most comprehensive resources and support to reach financial independence. Since 2009, more than 65,000 families have been put on the path to financial stability thanks to United Way THRIVE.
