Memorial Assistance Ministries

Since 1983, Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) has served working families across more than 17 zip codes in northwest Houston, providing workforce training, financial coaching, healthcare access, immigration legal services, and more. United Way of Greater Houston has been one of MAM's most important partners in scaling that work through United Way THRIVE, a collaborative of nonprofits, government agencies, and employers united around a single goal: helping Houston families land on their feet and stay there.

14% of Greater Houston households live on incomes below the federal poverty threshold, and another 28% are considered "ALICE"  (asset-limited, income-constrained, employed), working hard but unable to afford basics like housing, food, and healthcare. Through the THRIVE partnership, MAM delivers Certified Nursing Assistant training, financial coaching, basic needs support, and one-on-one navigation services that move people from crisis to career. United Way's network of 100+ funded partners and its Integrated Client Journey model amplify MAM's community-rooted work, ensuring no neighbor slips through the cracks.

The impact is real: Dionell, a mother of four re-entering the workforce, completed MAM's CNA training program through United Way THRIVE — persevering through COVID-19 delays — and landed a job as a Senior Patient Care Assistant at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands. Read her full story here.

2026 United Way Campaign Results: What a Way to End the Year!

Kindness in action defined this year’s Annual Meeting and Campaign Closing Celebration—and the results speak for themselves. Thanks to the generosity of so many, United Way of Greater Houston raised $72.8 million this year, bringing us to more than $215 million toward our eight-year goal. Those dollars will help more neighbors across Greater Houston access the resources they need to gain financial stability and build stronger, more sustainable futures for their families.

Thank you to the United Way Board, every company that ran a campaign, and each person who gave so generously, including each of you, our Women’s Initiative members. We are especially grateful to Campaign Chair Julie Sudduth and Board Chair Steve Stephens for their extraordinary leadership and support. To our campaign leadership, corporate partners, donors, volunteers, and funded partners, thank you for making this impact possible.

United Way Women’s Initiative Year End Celebration: Closing the Year with Gratitude and Momentum!

It’s official—the Women’s Initiative co-chair baton has been passed! We were delighted to celebrate the close of another meaningful year with members at our final campaign celebration at Amegy Tower. We were thrilled to announce that Women’s Initiative members contributed $5.9 to this year’s community campaign!

To everyone who joined us, and to all our incredible members, thank you for a year of strengthening our community, deepening relationships, and creating lasting impact. Together, you helped advance the important work of the United Way Women’s Initiative: uniting people and partners so neighbors facing hardship can get the help they need to land on their feet—and stay there.

A special thank you to Sara Hallam as she concludes her term as co-chair, and congratulations to Sarah Trend as she steps into this leadership role. With their dedication and guidance, the Women’s Initiative is well-positioned to continue thriving in the year ahead!
