Thank you for your interest in the H-E-B Feast of Sharing. United Way of Greater Houston is thrilled that we have exceeded our volunteer goal for the 2009 H-E-B Feast of Sharing! Hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers signed up to share their time and talents with the less fortunate in our community this holiday season. The waiting list is now closed and all positions are filled. If you were not able to volunteer, we hope you'll join us as a guest at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Sunday, December 13 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., for a festive holiday meal and lots of fun. Registration is limited to adults and children over the age of 14 (Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and will not be allowed to work in food service areas). Volunteer roles include serving line, children's area, greeter, drink server, waiter, busser, guest advocate, and pie server. Please keep in mind that some volunteer roles will require physical activity, like walking, serving and carrying light loads. All shifts are on the day of the event - December 13, 2009. Due to limited parking at the George R. Brown Convention Center, all volunteers must park (free of charge) and check-in at the United Way Center. Shuttle buses will transport volunteers to and from the convention center every 15 minutes. If you register for shift #1 from 11:30 - 3:00 p.m. please report to the United Way Center at 11:30 p.m. If you register for shift #2 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. please report to the United Way Center at 2:00 p.m. If you register for shift #3 (includes clean-up) from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. please report to the United Way Center at 3:00 p.m. What is the H-E-B Feast of Sharing? The Pilgrims knew that a great meal and good fellowship can be healing even in the most troubling of times. Today, H-E-B continues that hospitality in an inspired, Texas-size way by hosting its annual Feast of Sharing holiday dinners across the Lone Star State as well as in Mexico. H-E-B has sponsored the dinners for more than two decades. This year, H-E-B expects to serve piping-hot meals with all the trimmings to more than 250,000 people in 30 communities during November and December. In addition to the meal, H-E-B makes the Feast of Sharing dinner in each community more special by providing entertainment, children's activities, and even health screenings. At the December dinners, Santa will visit and take note of Christmas wishes. Last year in Houston, H-E-B was able to serve more than 6,000 meals with the help of over 800 dedicated volunteers. This year, we hope to serve more than 10,000 meals and make the holidays a little brighter for families and individuals in our community.
